Statement of Purpose

This project required me to think about something that has great importance to me. I have many of these objects in my life but a few stood out to me when I was thinking of which one to choose for this project. It had to be small enough to fit in this tiny box and still have a deeper meaning behind it in my opinion.
I finally ended up choosing a rose. About five years ago when my grandma died, all the grandkids were given a rose at her funeral because it was my grandma’s favorite. I was too young to understand the meaning of the flower and a couple days after the funeral I threw mine away. Years later when I was helping my sister move, I found my grandma’s rose in her things and immediately felt terrible for throwing it away. Throwing that rose away is probably the one thing I regret the most in my life.
For my box, I decided to build a box that could reflect the image of a rose. The shape is rounded at the top and the bottom tapers in to resemble a stem. The wood is a light color that takes after the yellow of the rose petals. Then on the top there are carvings of shapes that reflect the petals of the rose and then the stem of the rose.
