This
project was probably the most difficult for me out of all the projects this
semester. I’m used to working on the computer or with a camera so with this
project where I had to build something from nothing while using power tools
really scared me. Not only because sharp objects scare me but because I had no
idea what I was doing with this project.
I
first started out at my own house with my dad so he could help me with the
tools I needed and he could help me with the saw because I knew if I worked in
the common shop there would be a lot of people down there and I wouldn’t get a
lot of help but with my dad he could focus on me. But the saw in our basement
wasn’t thick enough to cut the block of wood so I ended up cutting my wood in
the common shop after all.
I
think I really could have done better on my box because the walls aren’t
straight and I think I may have built it the wrong way but I’m proud of it just
because it holds something special to me. The carvings on the lid were probably
the hardest part for me though. I’m not
used to it and I used the knife the wrong way and ended up cutting myself and
having to get stitches but it all ended up all right.
If
I could do this again I would cut straighter lines, sand the box better, but I
like the carvings on the lid because it’s sort of organic like a flower.
