Susan Sontag On Photography

Susan Sontag's relates to photography in a way that she believes everyone should when taking pictures and photographing something you are not used to. She tells the reader that relating to whatever you are photographing is important to focus on the important parts of the subject.
Photographs are important because they are seemingly everywhere. Sontag explains the options photographs have and the options are wide. They are scattered places from photo albums under someone's bed to projected on a powerpoint for a business meeting.
The reason pictures are so important to society is because of the truth behind them. They are evidence and proof of what happened, or what is happening. It is a memory that can last forever with the proper care.

The Photographer's Eye Response/Summary

This reading was pretty interesting to me because as a Photomedia student I could agree with most of what he was saying. Photographs cannot lie but they also tell false stories. And that's why photography is so interesting, because you can tell the truth with a photo or you can adjust/edit it to lie.
Another piece that was interesting to me was how selective photography is. The photographer could choose to cut out part of the image and it could completely change the real-life situation. It's either spot-on or it's deceiving. I've always thought about how truthful photography is but after reading how many ways you could lie it has completely changed my point of view on photography.
